The Kingdom of Sweden is a Nordic country located on the Scandinavian Peninsula in Northern Europe. Sweden shares land borders with Norway to the west and Finland to the northeast, and is also connected to Denmark by the Öresund Bridge in the south. It is a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary system of government and a highly developed economy. Sweden ranks first worldwide on the Democracy Index, published by The Economist, and seventh on the UN Human Development Index. The country has been a member of the European Union since January 1, 1995, and is also a member of the OECD.
