GROW program to study in Germany

Applications are now open for the GROW Program (Global Research Opportunities for the South), an initiative of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) aimed at strengthening science in the "Global South".

Funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the program seeks to support researchers whose work aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Support Modalities and Target Audience

GROW offers two main funding streams for the academic community:

• Preparation and Cooperation Trips (1 to 2 months): Ideal for faculty and researchers who wish to establish networks, identify topics for joint projects, or structure institutional partnerships.


• Research Stays (2 to 6 months): Focused on the execution of individual projects that present a clear proposal for knowledge transfer to UFRN upon return.

The grants cover doctoral and postdoctoral students, as well as senior professors and researchers. The program especially encourages applications from women and researchers from underrepresented groups.

Financial Benefits

The monetary values of the grants are defined according to the qualification level of the selected candidate:

• Doctoral and Postdoctoral students: €1,400.


• Professors and Researchers: Between €2,000 and €2,150.


• Additional benefits: The grant includes health insurance and a fixed allowance for travel expenses.

Deadlines and Guidelines

Applications must be submitted by April 30, 2026. It is important to note that the stay in Germany must be completed no later than January 31, 2027.

To assist candidates, DAAD Brazil will hold online support sessions (question and answer sessions) via Webex on April 7 and 14, at 5 PM.
