Austria, officially the Republic of Austria, is a country of approximately 8.3 million inhabitants located in Central Europe. It is bordered to the north by Germany and the Czech Republic, to the east by Slovakia and Hungary, to the south by Slovenia and Italy, and to the west by Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Austria covers an area of 83,872 square kilometers and is influenced by a temperate and alpine climate. The terrain is largely mountainous due to the Alps; only 32% of the country is below 500 meters in elevation, and its highest point reaches 3,797 meters.
