The United Mexican States is a federal constitutional republic located in North America. The country is bordered to the north by the United States; to the south and west by the Pacific Ocean; to the southeast by Guatemala, Belize, and the Caribbean Sea; and to the east by the Gulf of Mexico. With a territory covering almost 2 million square kilometers, Mexico is the fifth-largest country in the Americas by total area and the 14th largest independent country in the world. With an estimated population of 111 million inhabitants, it is the 11th most populous country in the world and the most populous Spanish-speaking country. Mexico is a federation composed of thirty-one states and one Federal District.
